Distant as the Milky Way is a mixed media soundscape. The audio component is a styled like a radio show; a combination of my late father's radio recordings from the early 1970s, along with a call-and-response using his voice and mine in the interludes. As radio broadcasts continue to travel out light years across the universe, I also consider how this music, as well as its connection with our loved ones, endures.

Excerpt: Breathing Signal, 2020

Sound piece performed in the installation Chamber: tea kettle, throat microphone, 20th century family chair, laptop, speaker. In Breathing Signal, the tea kettle spout and body is used as a medium to breathe, activating the whistle. A throat microphone, a device often used in covert operations and surveillance, detects and exposes internal noises, voice, and swallowing.
